Move over Banksy? Ben Eine $5,000 customised bicycle set for auction

A unique customised bicycle by British street artist Ben Eine will be auctioned at Christie's in London on September 6.

The work, titled Secret, was donated by the artist to the charity War Child, and all proceeds will benefit the cause.

Eine customised the bicycle in his signature-style live at London's Moniker Art Fair, for which War Child was the nominated charity.

The work is expected to realise between £2,000 and £3,000 when it is sold as part of Christie's Interiors auction.

Ben Eine's celebrity status has risen considerably in the last five years. He first came to prominence in the "commercial" graffiti scene through his partnership with London graffiti artist Banksy.

After gaining a following on the underground London graffiti scene, Eine worked for cult screen print company Pictures on Walls before leaving to pursue his own solo career in 2008.

Eine's biggest claim to fame is having his £2,500 work Twentyfirstcenturycity chosen for David Cameron to present to the US President Barack Obama on his first official visit to the White House as Prime Minister.

Most recently, Ben Eine's work was included in the biggest exhibition of street art to date, Art in the Streets, at MOCA, Los Angeles in April.

Eine's rise to global prominence is evidence of the growing popularity for street art among collectors, with works by British artists such as Banksy and Eine leading the charge.

Eine's Carebear with Chuckers Pink artwork sold for £1,560 at a Bonhams London auction in October 2008.

We will let you know how the auction fares next month.
