Christie's has announced that it will offer the outstanding collection of renowned Picasso dealer Jan Krugier in a two-part auction on November 4-5 in New York.

Krugier is fittingly described by the auction house as an "art market luminary", best known as the world's foremost Picasso dealer. His collection, which contains many Picasso works and some of the artist's personal belongings, is among the finest in the world. It is expected to sell for $170m.
The collection spans Krugier's diverse tastes, including not only impressionist and modern art but post-war and contemporary, old masters, American, Latin American and African pieces.

Picasso works will be led by a sheet metal maquette conceived by the artist between 1962 and 1964, which is valued at $25m-35m. This maquette was reserved for Picasso himself, while another example was sent to be used to create the 65ft sculpture that stands outside Chicago's Civic Centre - considered his final great sculpture.

Also highlighting is Wassily Kandinsky's Herbstlandschaft, a 1911 masterpiece that is expected to sell for $20m-25m. The piece hails from a transformative time in Kandinsky's career, in which he began to draw purely from imagination and his work became increasingly abstract.
Kandinsky's Studie fur Improvisation set the artist's record when it sold for $23m in November 2012 at Christie's.
