The photographs were taken in Paris during the 1940s and 1950s and show models wearing couture from top fashion houses in a series of innovative and informal shoots.

They were printed in 1978, with this particular edition numbered 33 of 75.

Avedon's record was set at £719,000 ($1.1m) in 2010 for a large print of 1950s model Dovima.

Another portfolio, this time from photographer John Beasley Greene (1832-1856), is estimated to make £100,000-150,000 ($166,380-249,570).

John Beasley Greene was at the forefront of modernism

Greene's photographs of archaeological sites and landscapes in Egypt and Algeria appear to prefigure modernism in their composition and use of light.

He studied under Gustave Le Gray, one of the most pioneering photographers of the 19th century, and managed to produce a staggering amount of work in the span of only a few short years, before dying of a mysterious ailment in Cairo at the age of 24.
