BMW has announced that its 17th "Art Car", created by Jeff Koons, will race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 12-13.

In doing so, Koons continues in the footsteps of Lichtenstein, Calder and Warhol. Such collaborations between cutting-edge artists and BMW have been taking place since 1975.

So far, Koons has released his concept design for the BMW, which has yet to be published. The artist is famous for using unusual subjects in his work - including the late Michael Jackson and his pet monkey, Bubbles.

According to reports, Koons' design is inspired by collected images of race cars and graphics, vibrant colours and speed which were then layered into a digital collage.
