Abraham Lincoln letter and six major Jane Austin novels head to auction

Fancy getting involved in a rare books and historical manuscripts auction featuring Abraham Lincoln and Jane Austin among its valuable lots?

The deadline is fast approaching for collectors to consign to Heritage Auction Galleries' October 14-15 sale, which will be held in Beverley Hills, California and online.

Heritage has only released sparse details on the confirmed lots so far. But confirmed highlights include a copy of the Declaration of Independence by estimated at $20,000-30,000.

An 1813 First Edition of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice

From circa 1833 and printed on thin wove paper - measuring 30 x 26 inches - the copy was originally produced for insertion into an 1848 publication by Peter Force.

Force was a 19th century politician, newspaper editor, archivist, and historian, and the copy of the Declaration was originally intended for inclusion in his American Archives, 5th series, Volume I.

A military appointment signed by Abraham Lincoln

Other star lots appearing in Heritage's sale will include a military appointment signed by Abraham Lincoln from August 1, 1864, estimated at $4,000-5,000.

Elsewhere, fans of Jane Austin have a chance to acquire an 1813 First Edition of her masterwork, Pride and Prejudice, published by T Egerton.

A circa 1833 print of the US Declaration of Independence

According to Heritage, the lot comes bound in sumptuous brown morocco by Riviere and Sons. Estimated at $30,000 and up, it will be one of six major Austin novels to appear in the sale.
