World class bookfair to come to Paris

From 16-18 April 2010, Paris is holding its annual bookfair. This is to be the 25th, and this year the guest library will be the Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de Médicine (BIUM).

The library's development goes hand in hand with the development of medicine from the 13th century and their collection ranks alongside the Wellcome Institute in London and America's National Library of Medicine.

The event was first held in the Conciergerie, which is perhaps most famous for holding Marie Antoinette, and created by Syndicat National de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM).

The event has grown into a huge event to which collectors come in search of rare and valuable books, not just from Europe but beyond.

France, USA, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and Monaco will all have book dealers representing them, thought to number over 200 in total.

Rare book collectors may also be interested to know that Tokyo is presenting a book fair in early March.
