1961 Jaguar E-type Series 1 valued at up to $223,000

A 1961 Jaguar E-type Series 1 roadster is up for grabs at Silverstone Auctions' July 30-31 sale.

It's expected to make around £140,000-170,000 ($183,722-223,091).

While E-types are always in high demand, this example is extra special as it's one of the first 92 right hand drive models released.

Furthermore, as it's one of the first 500 Series-1s, it also has the flat floor design (later models featured larger footwells).

As an example of the difference this makes to the valuation, other non Series-1 E-types rarely break $100,000.

Consignor Cherie Timney-Gunn told the Daily Record: "An E-type has always been my dream car and I've owned her and I've driven her but I just don't have the time any more.

"…I also have a classic 1968 Austin Mini Cooper which I use a lot to go to the shops because it's easier and more manoeuvrable although I have used the E-type to go to Tesco and there's loads more room for shopping in the E-Type than the Mini…

"…I felt the E-type should go to someone who would drive her and appreciate her and that she should not be languishing in a garage all the time."

A 1966 E-type that was recently recovered from a hedge in Bedfordshire is selling at H&H Auctions in October.
