The 1967 427 convertible is among the rarest Corvettes

It's one of the rarest Corvettes ever made. The body was built at AO Smith in Iowa and shipped to the Chevrolet factory in St Louis for assembly.

Only a handful were built in the first week of production before the manufacturing moved to in-house.

Other lots included a 1932 Ford B-400 custom Boyd convertible, which made $181,500.

The model was designed by famed custom maker Boyd Coddington in his workshop in California and is one of the last models he worked on before he died in 2008.

CEO Craig Jackson said: "In traditional Barrett-Jackson style we crushed records on every level during our Hot August Nights auction.

"Not only did we have a 100 percent sell through rate with more than $9.5 million in sales, but our attendance was up, shattering our single-day record in our three year history in Reno."
