The car was given by Ferrari distributer Bill Harrah to his wife, the singer songwriter Bobbie Gentry, in the year of its release.

The auction house comments: "Completely road ready and in sterling as-original condition, this well-known 330 GTS' ultimate rarity and significant ownership history make it a prime consideration for the demanding Ferrari enthusiast in search of an exceedingly high-quality example of one of the all-time open-cockpit front-engine V-12 Ferraris."

Other lots in the sale include a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB Short Nose that carries an estimate of $2.7m-3.2m.

Mecum explains: "This 1964 Series I or 'short nose' 275 GTB, serial number 6563, is a first-year example built for domestic delivery and one of approximately 200 examples produced."

The car marked an aggressive departure from the more conservative styling Ferrari had opted for in the early 1960s.
