Following two hugely successful sales in 2010, at 'Le Mans Classic' where 75 % of the cars sold realising €7m, and in Paris at 'Automobiles sur les Champs' on November 7, where 85% of the cars changed hands in a €2.7m sale, the team at Artcurial Motorcars, led by Matthieu Lamoure, now look forward to their next auction at the Rétromobile Salon on February 4 2011.
Rétromobile has been one of the most important classic car shows in Europe for more than 30 years. It attracts a truly international clientele, with collectors who are actively searching for significant historic vehicles.
To mark this prestigious event, Artcurial Motorcars will conduct four separate sales, presented together in a magnificent 350-page catalogue which has now been published. This will comprise sales of Motor Cars, Motorcycles, Watches and Automobilia presenting collectors with an unrivalled choice.
Artcurial will offer a range of some sixty important collectors' cars, fifteen of which come directly for the Heads of State Limousine Museum, including the Presidential Simca used by General de Gaulle. This car, featuring coachwork by Henri Chapron, was commissioned by the Elysée Palace for De Gaulle's official visits (estimate: €150,000-250,000).
Also on offer will be the legendary 1937 Bugatti 57C Atalante that once belonged to Jérôme Médrano, director of the famous circus, which will come under the hammer at Rétromobile. This Atalante, which has exceptional provenance and is fitted with a compressor for improved acceleration, is set to attract the attention of top collectors.
It is listed at €500,000-700,000 in Artcurial's sale, which takes place on February 4, 2011 in Paris.
