Give us a Hotchkiss... 1935 Roadster powers to $66,000 in Scotland

A 1935 Hotchkiss 686 Grand Sport Roadster was the leading lot at a recent auction of classic cars in urgent need of love and care.

The Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club sale in Glamis, Scotland saw car enthusiasts and investors from across the globe marvel at the selection of 50 vehicles on offer, all of which had seen better days.

The 1935 Hotchkiss was one of the smarter looking vehicles, having undergone a bodywork restoration, although the seats and upholstery were missing.

The "Drop Head Coupe" sold for £41,000, almost three times its estimate, reports the BBC.

Others highlights included the £32,500 sale of a 1939 McEvoy Steyr and a 1957 fixed head coupe made by Deutsch & Bonnet Panhard, which achieved £10,000.

This pre-war classic achieved £41,000

"From our point of view, this was a very successful start to the work we are going to be doing at our new premises," Alan Burt, the club's chairman, told the BBC website.

"We hope this will be the first of many sales we will be holding in the future."

All the cars at the sale had belonged to classic car enthusiast and former Fife panel beater William Cunningham.
