Rare 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 'custom power-plant' rolls into Florida sale

This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe is auctioning in Kissimmee, Florida between January 24-29. This classic car is the third car of its type ever built by the designer and collector Rich Lagasse.

Lagasse dubbed this one of his "Pro-Classic" series of personalised Corvettes. Like the carmaker's earlier efforts, the "rolling object d'art" took four years to design and complete - this one in particular is named "Split Personality".

Friends and family contributed more than 12,000 hours (!) of their efforts to helping build this car. The design concept behind this car was to combine the original styling of the first Z06 model ever offered with the latest Corvette technology.

This car is built on a SRIII Motorsports tube frame based on an original C2 coupe. It was hand-smoothed by Lagasse and later epoxy primed and painted by the Corvette Center in Connecticut.

Under the car's bonnet is a 550-plus HP LS7 427 engine, polished 6-speed Tremec T-56 transmission and Dana 44 third member with 3.90 gears.

According to this classic car's auctioneer, every aspect of the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe has been "finished to gleaming perfection."

What about its special features? These include a custom Be Cool radiator and expansion tank, a custom dry sump tank and a custom Rochester-fuel-injection-style intake cover.

Make no mistake: this Corvette is a bona fide power plant on wheels.
