Ford pedal car 1930s
All things automobilia are seeing increasing demand as the classic car market booms

The sale, held January 15 in Arizona, comes amid one of the biggest events on the car-collecting calendar. The rare pedal cars will provide a break in the flurry of million dollar sales, with many estimated at below $3,000.

With the classic car market booming, many different forms of automobilia are seeing an increase in popularity. These pedal powered replicas combine collectors' love of classic cars with nostalgia for the toys of their youth, and many have become highly sought after.

The most valuable of the selection offered by Bonhams are those from the 1930s, with Chrysler and Ford models available. At the start of the century, pedal cars were enjoyed only by the children of wealthy parents, with most created from steel with wooden chassis and rubber wheels.

Pedal cars didn't become affordable until after the second world war, when industrial advancements allowed for mass production. These later cars are often chain-driven, and more accurately represent the models they are based on.

Many of the early cars offered have been subject to exacting restorations, though a few project lots will be offered for enthusiasts to get stuck into.
