Rare Ferrari Daytona revs to £176,000 in UK auction

Paul Fraser Collectibles' hot tip for collectors ('Rare Ferrari Daytona will be a supercharged star at H&H') emerged as the star lot at H&H's classic automobiles sale, last Wednesday (April 21).

An early 1970 "Plexiglass" model of a Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona sold for £176,000 - just above its £155,000-175,000 pre-sale estimate.

One of just 158 examples ever supplied to the UK, this historic Italian rolling work of art remained in single family ownership until 2001.

It then changed hands to Maranello Concessionaires, the Ferrari parts specialist, and sold at H&H with a fascinating file of correspondence between the two parties.

Features and restorations on the Ferrari include air conditioning, fitted by Maranello, an engine overhaul some 10,000 miles ago and a bare metal re-spray.

Elsewhere, the auction's second highest lost was a 1930 Lagonda 2 Litre Supercharged Tourer with a remarkable racing provenance. It brought £148,500.

H&H's auction was held in Buxton, UK.

In other Ferrari news, a replica 250GT Spyder California created for the 1986 Paramount hit film Ferris Bueller's Day Off sold for an incredible £79,600 at Bonhams on April 19.
