Steve Jobs’ BMW Z8 offered in New York

Steve Jobs’ BMW Z8 will appear in RM Sotheby’s New York Icons auction on December 6.

The former Apple CEO owned the car for three years in the early 2000s. Its subsequent owners have driven it sparingly, meaning the car has notched up just 15,200 miles since it rolled off the sales floor.

Steve Jobs BMW

Steve Jobs owned this BMW Z8 for three years between 2000 and 2003

The auction house comments: “Jobs’ Z8 was well suited to his signature, minimalist style, finished in Titanium over a Black leather interior.

“With a production date of April 1, 2000, this early example was delivered to him on October 6th of that year...

“Without a doubt, BMWs most iconic car of the 21st century, upon its launch the Z8 was the pinnacle of BMW design and technology, and it is not surprising that the car attracted the attention of someone like Steve Jobs.”

The model was originally sold for $129,000 new.

Its legendary good looks keep it in high demand. It’s also quite rare, with just 5,700 released between 2000 and 2003.

So what price is RM Sotheby’s putting on the Jobs connection?

The estimate is $300,000-400,000. That’s an extra $100,000-200,000 on the average $200,000 value of the model on the secondary market. It may sound like a lot, but demand for Steve Jobs memorabilia is at fever pitch.

Only last week, a Jobs signed copy of Newsweek sold for $50,548 at RR Auction.
