Steve McQueen's 1940 Indian to beat $90,000 at Pebble Beach?

The Indian Inline Four formerly owned by film star Steve McQueen will star at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance auctions.

Steve McQueen Indian Inline Four
The Indian will be looking to top the $90,000 achieved in January

The magnificent motorcycle will be sold alongside McQueen's 1938 Triumph Speed Twin on August 17-19, while his widow, Barbara McQueen, will be sharing memories and signing copies of her book, Steve McQueen: The Last Mile…Revisited.

"Steve McQueen is a historically iconic image of the quintessential motorcycle enthusiast, and we're honoured to have his wife Barbara join us to commemorate his passion," said the auction house's Ron Christenson. "These motorcycles will both complement and contrast the automobiles on the field. In a very real way, they expand on the history of the car; many early automakers started by making two and three-wheelers."

McQueen's bikes will be aiming to top the prices they achieved when last sold in January this year, where the Indian made $90,000 and the Triumph realised $84,000. Estimates in the current sale have not yet been set by the auction house.

In 2006, the ex-Steve McQueen 1912 Indian Single sold at another Bonhams sale dedicated to the actor's motorcycles for $55,575, while his 1927 Indian Big Chief brought $42,170. On July 31, McQueen's Heuer Monaco watch that he wore in 1971's Le Mans film sold for an impressive $799,500 - up 166.5% on its $300,000 high estimate.

Paul Fraser Collectibles continues to bring you the latest on collecting classic motorcycles. One of the year's most exciting sales will be provided by the famous "Old Bill" Brough Superior, which is expected to break motorcycle auction records on October 4.
