$40,000 German helmet sale turns heads at Hermann Historica
 

An early 16th century Germanic helmet achieved $40,000 at Hermann Historica's recent sale in Munich.

The one-piece visor helmet, which was manufactured in Nuremberg or Innsbruck between 1500 and 1510, far surpassed its $25,000 high-end estimate.

The helmet features a rounded skull with a flattened crown and is decorated with eleven parallel flutes running from front to back.


A 16th century helmet recently sold for $40,000 at Hermann Historica

 

A German or Austrian burgonet from around 1600 also sold at the auction, for a more modest $2,500.

Away from the helmets, a 17th or 18th century Indian dagger achieved a highly impressive $35,500 against an estimate of $2,000, further evidence that militaria investments offer the potential for enticing returns.
