$40k for a gold Luftwaffe Cross

SoldUSA has sold a set of interesting pieces of militaria from the German side in both World Wars in their recent militaria auction.

An original WW2 German Original Kriegsmarine U-boat Badge

First up was an Original Kriegsmarine Uboat Badge, which bears a diamond Swastika featuring nine genuine rose-cut diamonds and silver. It is very rare for such pieces to come to auction, and a bidder picked out the piece for $22,600.

Selling in the same auction was a set of decorations belonging to WW1 German Ace Adolf Tutschek.

The lot included his engraved Pour Le Merit "Blue Max" award in its original case, his cased Iron Cross medal with his name engraved on the reverse, and his engraved, pilot's badge in a leatherette box. A bidder bought it straight off with an offer of $28,250.

Finally, the pièce de résistance was a WW2 1936 German Luftwaffe Spanish Cross In Gold with Diamonds. This rare and carefully designed piece attracted some competition from bidders before selling for $39,550.

Nazi memorabilia is a strong, if highly controversial, area of collectibles. However, collectors more interested in pieces from the winning side may wish to take a look at this signed picture of Winston Churchill or letter from General Patton, which are currently available.
