Albanian government aircraft auction to take place on February 20

The Albanian government is to auction off 40 aircraft from the Soviet era in the country's capital Tirana on February 22.

The Albanian air force retired most of its Soviet fighter jets in the early 2000s

The lots on offer include Mig-19 fighters and Mi-4 helicopters, the majority of which were retired during the early 2000s.

All are offered strictly for civilian usage and are expected to bring in a total of around $483,000.

Albania was formerly a part of the Soviet bloc, but became independent following the collapse of communism in the early 1990s. It joined NATO in 2009.
