Saturday's session featured a number of Civil war documents and soldiers' letters.

Among these was a Civil War record signed by Joshua Chamberlain - the American college professor who, despite having no training, volunteered for the Union Army and became a highly-decorated officer.

Chamberlain would later become the 32nd Governor of the US State of Maine.

Won by a local Pennsylvania collector, the Civil War record realised $2,250.

Also in Cordier's sale, a collection of Patriotic stationery and soldiers' letters brought $700. And a grouping of Civil War naval paymaster records left the auction block at $400.
