A Churchill Toad flail tank designed to clear mines will provide the headline lot of the sale of the Littlefield Collection at Auctions America on July 11-12.
It carries an estimate of $400,000-500,000.

The last remaining example of only 42 built in the early 1950s, the tank is essentially a modified standard Mk VII equipped with a roller set with chains that whip at the ground.
Ultimately, the Toad was never deployed in a combat situation as the job could be carried out faster and more effectively with the use of rollers and ploughs - although similar examples are used by humanitarian organisations today.
It was extensively refurbished in 2008 and comes with a top speed of 12mph.

Built in 1969, the model was produced for the use of the West German Army after the state joined NATO.
Light, heavily armed and more manoeuvrable than comparative examples, it was used up until the late 1970s when it was phased out in favour of the Leopard II.
Examples are still used today by other forces, including the Canadian and Greek armies.
An M50 Israeli Sherman tank is estimated to make $300,000-350,000.
The model was modified from the standard Shermans scavenged from European scrap yards, and equipped with increased firepower. They were used in both the 1956 Suez War and the 1967 Six Day War.
