Early Apple Macintosh poster holds $5,000 estimate in online auction

A rare and early poster for the Apple Macintosh computer will sell as the lead lot in Online Sales' online-only Rock and Roll & Vintage Ephemera auction on June 29.

The landmark Apple Macintosh was released in 1984, featuring novelties such as desktop publishing and a mouse

First used to launch the Apple Macintosh at select dealers across the USA, the poster is now valued at $3,500-5,000. It reads, "Test drive a Macintosh".

The sale offers a great chance to obtain the rare poster before the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking Apple Macintosh in 2014, which is likely to see values for the iconic company's memorabilia rise.

There is already a strong market for early machines from Apple, with the auction record for an Apple-1 computer beaten three times in just 12 months from June 2012.

It currently stands at $667,960, after a Steve Wozniak-signed example sold in May.

An original Apple sign from Apple Computers' office will auction at Bonhams New York with a $10,000 high valuation on June 25.
