Magician's tricks could weave magic at auction

Memorabilia once owned by one of the most revolutionary and influential magicians of the 20th century is auctioning online, in a sale concluding January 30.

The sale, hosted online by Live Auctioneers, is offering items and personal effects from the magic repertoire of Dai Vernon (1894-1992).

Vernon's most personal scrapbook and
photo album ($5-6k)

Vernon's feats include the time he bewildered Houdini, the great magician and escapologist, by performing a magic trick for him up-close.

Vernon's prop case will be among the lots, including coins, cards, a Malini Egg Bag, silhouette shears and other tricks that he used.

A major highlight, however, is Vernon's first and most personal scrapbook and photo album. The book contains images of Vernon and his contemporaries, and is estimated at $5,000-6,000, with a starting bid of $2,600.

His Academy of the Art of Magic
medallion ($5k-6k)

It features numerous unpublished images of the performer's and contemporaries - which should be of interest if you are a collector with an interest in entertainment history.

The magician was among the elite group of magicians to enter the Academy of the Art of Magic in New York in the 1930s. A medallion bearing Vernon's name and initials will also feature in the sale.

It also carries an estimate of $5,000-6,000, with bids again starting at $2,600.
