There are four variations of this bank, and none of them appear at auction regularly

The bank, a rare German piece circa the early 1930s, was made by Saalheimer & Strauss. In fantastic condition, with some wear but retaining its glossy appearance, it sold for $28,750 against a $20,000-35,000 estimate.

The collection sold to benefit the Where the Wild Things Are writer's foundation for budding children's book writers.

"The Maurice Sendak Foundation maintains the Sendak home, which now serves as a place where aspiring authors can go to study and write in the same, carefully preserved environment that inspired Maurice," commented Ted Hake.

"I met Maurice in 1969, shortly after publication of his now-famous book 'Where The Wild Things Are,'" he added. "Over the next forty years, Maurice would participate in Hake's auctions, and several times a year I would visit him to present early 1930s Mickey Mouse objects for his consideration."

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a wonderful Walt Disney's World of Fantasy book for sale, which has been signed by Disney voice actors and animators.
