Will Babe Ruth's ball hit a home run at Heritage?

A signed baseball featuring two of the most desirable signatures in the sport is set to go under the hammer at Heritage Auction Galleries on Sunday (February 21).

Both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig feature on his OAL (Bernard) baseball, along with the autograph of Yankees teammate Lyn Lary.

The ball is the second Babe Ruth/Lou
Gehrig signed example to auction this
month (estimated at $2k-4k)

According to Heritage, the ball exhibits heavy wear, with moderate scuffing.

The historic balls carries an estimate of $2,000-4,000 but - this being Heritage - live internet bidders could bat it out of the park.

This isn't the first time a baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig has appeared at auction, this month.

Another ball, signed by the legendary pair at an exhibition game at Dexter Park, sold at Cordier's in Pennsylvania for similarly-priced $4,500.

The ball was reportedly obtained by the consignor's maternal grandfather who used to usher at Ebbets Fields, where Ruth and Gehrig played.

It was certainly a good buy: other Ruth autographs on the market can command prices three or four times higher.

But even this value was dwarfed when Babe Ruth's 'most important bat' auctioned in the US, last year. It slugged towards an incredible final hammer price of $537,750.
