Judy Garland's Dorothy dress to make up to $1.2m?

A dress worn by Judy Garland as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz is up for auction at Bonhams New York on November 23.

The lot is to headline Treasures from the Dream Factory, a sale held in collaboration with Turner Classic Movies (TCM). It has an estimate of $800,000-1.2m.

Dorothy Wizard Oz
The dress is one of around seven seen in the film

Only around seven of the dresses made for The Wizard of Oz appeared on screen, with another example selling for $480,000 in 2012.

Test dresses produced in the run-up to the film have often proved more valuable as they are fewer in number.

One example made $910,000 at Profiles in History in 2011.

A "Rosebud" sled gifted to Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz is valued at $100,000-200,000.

Mankiewicz is believed to have based the legendary McGuffin on a bike that was stolen from him when he was a child.

Three are known to have been produced specifically for the film, with one specimen bought by Steven Spielberg for $55,000 in 1982.

The other two were thought to have been burned, although one was later found and sold for $233,500 in 1996.
