Elvis Presley's Walther PPK/S handgun leads Graceland sale

A Walther PPK/S handgun led an auction of Elvis Presley memorabilia at Graceland last night.

The lot, engraved with "Elvis" and his motto "TCB" (Taking Care of Business), sold for $62,500.

Elvis was a huge gun fan and the proud owner of an enormous collection. He regularly carried a gun with him on stage and would shoot at TV sets whenever arch-rival Robert Goulet appeared onscreen.

The present lot was manufactured in West Germany in 1974. It has only been fired once since it was last bought in 1999.

A gold, diamond and tourmaline ring given by Elvis to his girlfriend Lisa Thompson between 1972 and 1976 sold for $47,500 - an increase of 35.7% on a $35,000 estimate.

It was given away as a prize by the National Enquirer in 1987, to mark the 10 year anniversary of his death.

It was won by a woman who sold it on to a Texas oil tycoon. He then lost it in a poker game to construction magnate Brown Humphries, who sold it to the consignor.
