Ringo Starr’s suede boots offered in Liverpool sale

A pair of black suede boots worn by Ringo Starr for a number of shows during the Beatles’ meteoric rise in 1963 is to sell in Liverpool.

Valued at up to £5,000 ($6,500), the lot will be among the highlights of the Liverpool Beatles Shop’s annual auction on August 26.

While the rest of the band favoured identical leather boots with pointed toes, Ringo went for a softer boot.

He’s inscribed his name on the inside in pen.

Ian Wallace, owner of the Liverpool Beatles Shop, told local paper the News & Star: "The original Beatle boots were leather with a higher heel.

"As the drummer he was having to use pedals for the bass drum and the hi-hat cymbal and what have you, so he couldn't use those boots.

"Instead he wore these suede ones, which were obviously more comfortable."

Starr personally gave these size sevens to the consignor (a family friend) in 1963.

Memorabilia associated with the Beatles’ early years is always very popular.

Last year Ringo's Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit, played on some of the band’s earliest records, realised a massive $2.2m.

Also up for grabs is the front door from the house George Harrison was born in.
