1907 Nyasaland 2d and 4d achieve $33,000 at Spink

A 1907 Nyasaland 2d "dull and bright purple" and 4d "grey-green and black" have sold for £22,000 ($33,130) at Spink.

The lot led the philatelic collector's series sale in London on November 26.

Nyasaland stamps Spink
The British Central Africa Protectorate became Nyasaland in 1908

The stamps were the last issued when Nyasaland (now Malawi) was under the British Central Africa Protectorate.

They show a profile of Edward VII, include much of the original gum, and clearly display the rare MCA (Multiple Crown CA) watermark.

Spink described the lot as "an outstanding pair of these famous and very rare stamps, of which only twelve examples of each exist in private hands."
