Duke and Duchess of Windsor collection to sell on June 14

A collection of materials relating to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor will sell at Kerry Taylor Auctions on June 14.

Edward VIII famously abdicated the British throne in 1936, rather than end his relationship with American socialite (and double divorcee) Wallis Simpson.

Among the highlights is a gold Cartier cigarette case, presented to Wallis' close friend Herman Rogers, who walked her down the aisle at their wedding in 1937.

It's engraved: "We will never forget a great friendship", followed by the names Wallis and Edward. It's valued at £20,000-30,000 ($28,633-42,950).

Other items include the original guest book for the wedding, which is expected to make £3,000-5,000 ($4,292-7,154).

A collection of around 200 photographs will also feature, with an estimate of around £1,500-2,500 ($2,147-3,579).

The items originate from the collection of Herman and Kathleen Rogers. They were discovered by their granddaughter in a safe at the couples' former home in Canada.

There is huge public interest in the Wallis and Edward story even now. Last year a Rolls-Royce employed to sneak Wallis into Balmoral Castle in the 1930s sold for £161,280 ($255,440).
