1947 Omega Tourbillon watch sets brand record

A prototype 1947 Omega Tourbillon watch set a new world record at auction last week.

The watch achieved $1.4m in an auction in Geneva, making it the most valuable Omega ever sold.

This Omega is built on a 1947 prototype

Omega created 12 tourbillion prototypes in the late 1940s.

These movements were ultimately shelved until 1987, when they were rediscovered in the company archives.

New cases were produced and sold to selected collectors.

In October, Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona sold for a world record $17.8m.
