Brilliant £1.5m diamond pendant to sparkle at Paris auction, later this month

While this year's auction results have shown that diamond prices are rising in 2010, Artcurial will be hoping that its late-July sale continues the trend, and shows that the jewellery markets are thriving in the face of economic downturn.

We've already reported on some of the luxury wristwatches that are appearing in the Paris sale - including this rare yellow-gold Audemars Piguet watch from 1956 - but even those are set to be dwarfed by a rich diamond pendant which is valued at no-less than €1,500,000.

At the rose gold pendant's centre is a 55.34 carat diamond

Made form rose gold, the pendant is adorned with a large pear-cut 55.34 carat diamond which rests in a perforated 'basket', set with brilliant cut diamonds. Weighing 43g, the stunning pendant hangs on a rose gold chain.

With a pre-sale estimate of €1,000,000-1,500,000, the pendant's stone will auction with a certificate from the EGL lab attesting to its quality. According to the certificate, the diamond is L Colour and Clarity VS2.

The million-euro pendant is going under the hammer at Hôtel Marcel Dassault in Paris on July 21, during the final day of Artcurial's two-day auction.
