Video: Ralph Lauren explains the craftsmanship behind his watches

Where does Ralph Lauren go to find the artisans to produce his watches?

Switzerland of course.

And as the designer explains in this video, it is the skills of the Swiss watchmakers, passed down from father to son, that make Ralph Lauren watches so individual and sought after.

Ralph Lauren watches currently retail for between $10,000 and $40,000, and we feel sure that they will be collectibles of the future, such is the quality of their craftsmanship and the prestige of the Ralph Lauren name.

One of the most famous fashion designers in the world, Forbes estimates Lauren's current wealth at $4.6bn, and he was recently decorated Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur by the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy.

After dropping out of business school and a short spell in the army, Lauren opened a necktie store in 1967 where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label 'Polo'. From there he went from strength to strength.

While clothes are the company's trademark, Ralph Lauren watches are now too in great demand.

Collectors at the more affordable end of the luxury watch market should also take a look at this superb Longines stainless steel quartz Olympic series men's wrist watch.

The wonderfully designed timepiece is available to you today through Paul Fraser Collectibles for £950.
