Anticipation is building for the sale of the collection of the Lloyd Flatt at Sotheby's, week after next on March 10.
The 1,500 bottles on offer not only promise a fantastic range to collectors, but will also promote the legacy of a renowned collector whose iconoclastic sense of human and unique attitudes to wine have outlasted him.
Sotheby's sale is expected to net a total of $600,000. Highlights will include a jeroboam of Château Lafite Rothschild 1959, estimated at $20,000 to $30,000.
Two 6-liter bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal Millennium 1990 are estimated at $10,000 to $15,000 each, and a bottle of Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet 1864 at $4,000 to $5,500.
There's also a case of Château Haut-Brion Blanc 1989 estimated at $10,000 to $15,000.
Flatt was a firm believer that what is inside the bottle is more important than the price, and was known for his generosity when sharing his expensive wine among friends and strangers.
