A 1963 Aston Martin DB4 series convertible is among the headline lots of Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed Auction.

The DB4 is considered among the finest cars that Aston Martin ever produced and remains highly coveted. The convertible version is particularly rare.

Bonhams comments: "Combining Aston Martin's traditional virtues of style and performance with the joys of open-air motoring, the DB4 Convertible is most sought after and highly prized today.

"With the exception of the Zagato, the DB4 Convertible is the rarest Aston Martin road car of the David Brown era with a total of only 70 built, six less than the legendary DB4 GT."

Other lots in the sale include a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster, which carries an estimate of £800,000-1m ($1.2m-1.5m).

The model was among the fastest of its era, capable of attaining speeds of up to 130mph.

The present lot retains its original engine and has just over 30,000km on the clock.
