Charles Schulz autographed Peanuts strip makes $20,000

An autographed Peanuts comic strip from Charles Schulz saw excellent results in an online sale which closed on June 20.

Charles Schulz Snoopy Dr. J comic strip Peanuts
The strip's value was heightened by superb provenance

The value of the four-panel strip, in which Snoopy and Woodstock play basketball, was heightened after being signed by Schulz for NBA hall of famer, Julius Erving - better known as Dr J. It was sold at the auction complete with a letter of authenticity from the basketball star himself, stating that it had belonged to him and his family.

The strip's inscription read: "For Dr. J with friendship & admiration—Charles M. Schulz (Sparky)", and was signed by the Peanuts creator in black felt tip across the top border. Dated October 4, 1984, the item sold for $20,123, despite a few spots of correction fluid on the second panel.

Peanuts is one of the most popular and influential comic strips ever created, having been published on a daily basis for 50 years before Schulz passed away in 2000. Since his death, Charles Schulz memorabilia has seen heightened value at auction, spurred by bidders eager to own a piece of his remarkable legacy.

Paul Fraser Collectibles currently has a comprehensive range of Charles Schulz memorabilia in stock. This signed hard-back copy of Snoopy and the Red Baron offers excellent value, while this autographed sketch of Snoopy provides the unmissable highlight of our collection.
