A Nobel Prize awarded to German chemist Heinrich Wieland (1877-1957), the father of modern biochemistry, is to auction with a minimum bid of $325,000.
It will provide the headline lot of a sale at Nate D Sanders that closes on April 30.

The auction house comments: "Wieland's research into bile acid was used as the basis for the manufacture of drugs for the treatment of a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases, underpinning his recognition as the founder of modern biochemistry�Ǫ
"As a result of his groundbreaking work in the field of chemistry, the Heinrich Wieland Prize was established and endowed in his honor in 1964, awarded to leading scientists for their work in the fields of biochemistry, chemistry and physiology, and counting four Nobel Laureates among its recipients."
As well as his work as a pioneering chemist, Wieland deeply opposed the Nazi party. He successfully hid a number of Jews and resistance fighters in his Munich laboratory.
The present lot is the latest in a series of Nobel Prizes to come up for auction. The most recent example, awarded to James Watson for his work in determining the structure of DNA, sold for a record $4.8m in 2014.
