Lorne Greene Bonanza memorabilia to auction in the US

A raft of memorabilia pertaining to the US television series Bonanza, previously owned by late star Lorne Greene, is to cross the auction block this weekend.

Bonanza memorabilia

On June 29, treasures from the well-loved actor's collection, including photographs of the star accompanied by his screen-sons (Dan Blocker as Hoss, Pernell Roberts as Adam and Michael Landon as Little Joe) are likely to be snapped up by fans.

Also featuring are commemorative buckles given to several members of the cast and the iconic branding iron used in the Western-inspired series' opening credits, which will go under the hammer in Reno, Nevada.

More than 500 items have been put up for sale by Greene's son Chuck.

Jeff Pilliod, owner of the auction house overseeing proceedings, Anchor Auctions, told the LA Times: "For a lot of people, this show just brings back good memories of their childhood.

"It was just a good, wholesome show. The fact that it featured a father with three sons by three different wives was kind of unusual for the era. Still, it has a lot of Lawrence Welk-type nostalgia for many."

In collecting terms, nostalgia remains a powerful force.

In May this year, an array of US children's TV show Captain Kangaroo memorabilia went under the hammer in the US, bringing outstanding results.

Dancing Bear's hand-crafted costume made $207,091, the keys to the Captain's Treasure House brought $27,917 and a moth-eaten Bob Sanders-worn Captain Kangaroo suit hailing from the show's early years sold for $19,103.

Here at Paul Fraser Collectibles, we currently have a great deal of evocative memorabilia in stock, including this original EH Shepard Winnie-the-Pooh drawing.
