1962 Beatles demo recording offered at Omega Auctions

A unique 1962 Beatles acetate demo recording will star in a sale at Omega Auctions in Warrington, UK on March 22.

It's expected to sell for in excess of £10,000 ($13,963).

Beatles Epstein London
Brian Epstein transferred the demo from a master tape

The record includes two songs, Hello Little Girl and 'Til There Was You. The band's manager, Brian Epstein, had it transferred from the master tape at an HMV store in London to show to various record executives.

It was originally given to EMI head George Martin, who later passed it on to Les Maguire of the Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers. It has been in Maguire's attic ever since.

Ian Shirley, editor of the Rare Record Price Guide, comments: "This is one of those Holy Grail items like the original Quarrymen acetate that the band recorded themselves.

"This acetate is a unique item that, in many respects, helped Brian Epstein to start the ball rolling to musical world domination.

"It will fascinate Beatles collectors worldwide and no doubt attract bids from those with deep pockets."

The huge importance of this record to the Beatles story is likely to see it significantly exceed its opening bid, however the fact it is not the original recording and was never personally owned by a member of the band could temper its value.
