A lock of David Bowie's hair auctions online this week.

The two-inch lock of the singer's blonde hair is expected to sell for $4,000 on June 25 at Heritage Auctions.

Bidding on the 33-year-old lock of David Bowie's hair stands at $2,000

The hair has superb provenance. The strands have been consigned by Wendy Farrier, who cut Bowie's hair when he posed for his waxwork model at London's Madame Tussauds museum in 1983.

The snippets helped the museum produce a lifelike wig for the star's model. Farrier, who enjoyed the wonderful job title of "wig mistress", held on to the small collection of strands as a keepsake - until now.

"We have sold a lot of celebrity hair in the past but never any of David Bowie's. This is pretty unique," explained Heritage Auctions.

"David Bowie has now passed away and fans are devastated by the news so we are expecting to get a lot of interest in the sale."

Online bidding stands at $2,000.

The market for celebrity hair is on the up and up. We recently acquired John Lennon's hair from the cut that relieved him of his Beatles mop. Click here to buy your own strand.
