$36,000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 will auction tomorrow

Auction house Skinner will be holding its spring sale of Fine Wines tomorrow (May 13) at its Boston gallery.

The auction will offer over 500 lots of fine vintage Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italian, Spanish and New World wines, promising the Skinner Fine Wine department's most extensive sale to date.

Prospective highlights will include the 1961 and 1982 Bordeaux vintages, DRC from the monopole vineyards of La Tache and Romanee Conti and superstars from the Rhone, Piedmont, Ribera del Deuro, and California.

The big lot among these is two bottles of the legendary Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982. They will sell estimated at $26,000-36,000. Meanwhile, a case of Chateau Petrus 1961 will also appear valued at $22,000-32,000.

Another favourite in Skinner's sale is the Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache 2004, of which five bottles are carrying an estimate of $4,250-5,750.

As usual internet bidding is available, and the sale is likely to attract collectors and fine wine lovers from around the globe.

In other news, two six bottle case lots of the legendary Romanée-Conti 1990 - of which only a few hundred cases were ever made - were bought by a collector at Christie's, last weekend. They sold for an incredible $312,000.
